E-Rickshaw

The –E-rickshaw is a culturally reflective artifact that allows people to interact not with a computer, but with the rickshaw itself.
When current forms of computing consisting of keyboard, mouse and TV display disappear, it can assume the forms of walls, tables, furniture, clothing, in the forms of preceding technologies which are already part of the people’s social fabric and awareness.

In this installation the form of a computer disappears and reappears as a popular cultural icon of Banaras. The rickshaw travels through the artscapes and landscapes of Banaras. The e-rickshaw allows users to interact with rickshaw accessories to retrieve video images showing the rickshaw in Banaras, its streets, the geometry, and the love of the driver for his vehicle. The rickshaw stories on the streets of Banaras can be explored by steering the handle of a rickshaw.
