The
world of Indian arts speaks about the interrelations arts. That which
can be seen can also be felt. In the installation, the 14 emblems
of Shiva’s yogic form are augmented with radio tags. Users hold
an icon and touch a display screen to retrieve the image of a dancer
explaining the inner meaning of the symbols of Shiva, such as his
wisdom eye, crescent moon, his matted locks, serpent garland, tiger
skin, etc.
Icons
can transform their appearance physically, illustrating changes in
state. The opening of this icon box completes the symbol of the heaven
flow of the Ganga from Shiva’s matted locks.
The
adorning of icons and the joining of icons can evolve gestures and
composite forms that are meaningful in cultural contexts. The joining
of the Linga (the male form) and the Yoni (the female form) creates
a composite form that allows people to access notions of male-female
unity.
