"Secrets
of Shiva in Bangkok," N Life, Interview with Ranjit Makkuni
(December, 10, 2006).

| Q.
What is your message?
A. With the global proliferation of computer technology and in
turn globalization and homogenized culture, it is important to
preserve traditional culture and see whether technology could
become a cultural bridge across generations.
Thailand with its rich Buddhist heritage as well as crafts cultures
and hill tribe cultures can benefit from a methodology building
bridges between tradition and modernity.
Q. Why do you think Technology approach able to uplift
human's spirituality?
A. Man interacts with technology more than 8 hours a day. This
is more than he interacts with humans. With the advent of ITV,
I pod and computing displays people will find themselves interacting
with technology. It is technology then which will become the site
of spiritual transformation. Therefore if the technology could
remind the user about the Buddha nature and Man-Nature relationship
then Modern Man can become spiritualized while going about secular
activities...
Q. What is your goal in life and work?
A. My goal is ensure that ancient wisdom doesn't vanish in the
pursuit of individual material wealth.
I wish to learn from the Buddha, who had done pioneering research
on the nature of intelligence and the mind, and understand how
to, given the limited time provided to every human being, accelerate
our learning towards enlightenment. In an average lie span of
70 years, people spend a great majority, say 60 years, just being
wrapped up in samasra.... therefore the question is: if we could
trust in the wisdom of the Buddha and the teachers before us,
can we acquire the enlightenment earlier and use the rest of the
time available for advancing consciousness research. I hope the
pursuit of arts, design and technology will help us achieve this
goal.
Q. Have you achieved your goal! If not, when do you think
you will achieve it?
A. Partially. I am on my journey. I am looking for partners in
the gaming industry, computer and design industries to create
the new transformation. Imagine a new computer, which allows people
to remember wisdom and compassion, Buddha’s essential teachings?
Q. Do you have any additional comment for your audience
in this time’s round exhibition in Bangkok?
A. I believe that Thai culture is an amazing combination of compassion
applied to deep profound teachings of the Buddha. The golden lacquered
sculptures show humanized Buddha's teachings. Therefore I believe
that this approach would be the direction for the new millennium
in order to make complex teachings transmitted simply and directly
through the heart.
